The Horror Show!
A Twisted Tale of Modern Britain

27 October 2022 - 19 February 2023
Somerset House

Featuring over 200 artworks and culturally significant objects, this landmark show told a story of the turbulance, unease and creative rebellion at the heart of British cultural psyche over the last 50 years.

Told in three acts – Monster, Ghost and Witch – each section interpreted a specific era through the lens of a classic horror achetype, in a series of thematically linked talismanic objects and contemporary works. Among the objects on display were newly commissioned artworks from Somerset House Studios artists Laura Grace Ford, Nick Ryan, Tyreis Holder and Col Self, and an immersive audio installation by musical composer Gazelle Twin.

The Horror Show! was co-curated by artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard with Claire Catterall, and designed by Sam Jacob Studio and Barnbrook.

The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue, with original texts by John Doran, Nathalie Olah and Patricia MacCormack, edited by Faye Dowling.
